Joey Barton is the latest England fan to voice their outrage over the
'playful update' to the St George's Cross on the back of Nike's new England shirt.


The controversial former Manchester City, QPR and Newcastle midfielder has long sparked
outrage for his unfiltered viewpoints and comments.



So it comes as no surprise that the retired footballer decided to weigh in on the
controversy and to involve himself in the drama.

Although many have felt indifferent to the slight change to the world recognised Red Cross, a petition has been created to revert the
colourful St George's Cross back to it's original format and
recall the current jersey.

Replying to a user on the platform X which was urging people to sign the petition, Barton retweeted making it clear
he had signed it.

At the time of publication, the petition started
by Alfred Ramsey on change.org has garnered over 5,000 signatures to 'save  St George's Cross in English football'.


Barton followed up his initial tweet, with another more damning tweet where he alluded to the one thing many have been upset about.


Many outraged England fans have said the American sports brand are trying to make the cross 'woke' by adding the blue, light blue and pink into the colour scheme.
